What potential impact might Google Gemini have on ChatGPT? Could they both coexist?

Gemini, rumored to be the largest language model with 1 trillion parameters, seems capable of handling various tasks, perhaps even outperforming GPT-4. Do you think this poses a threat to ChatGPT, especially if Gemini ends up being free while GPT-4 comes with a $20 price tag?

To be Honest, when was the last time Google released something noteworthy? Try out any Google product at the moment and share your experience.

I believe OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini will coexist. However, it is difficult to say which one will have the largest market share. While Google has a huge market share in web search, and online ads, not all Google products have become successful.

I'm very certain that OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini will definitely work side by side. There's need for competition to be in the industry. People will make use of what works out well for them. Also, looking at the free and paid plan, there are those who loves using paid features no matter how good the free version presented itself.

Google always makes these big promises, and when they reveal the actual product, it's usually subpar. I treat every new product/feature that Google introduces with a heavy dose of skepticism because they're always coming up with new stuff, only to shut it down in a few years.

Yeah, that's true about Google. They even go to the extent of having such products discontinued when it no longer suits their needs. A very good example is when they shutdown Google Stadia when it's still being used by some people.

I believe that competition is good for all these language models. This will make it easier for them to upgrade everything to give users maximum experience with using either Google Gemini or ChatGPT. A smart users will always toggle between both of them.

What makes Gemini so good is how it's multimodal capabilities, benchmark performance, and real-time learning have been coded to be better than ChatGPT. This is what present a formidable challenge to ChatGPT. ChatGPT have the advantage of accessibility but with Gemini's upcoming upgrades which is targeted at making advanced AI more accessible and affordable will likely rock the world of ChatGPT.

I agree that competition can definitely spur advancements. Having multiple options like Google Gemini and ChatGPT allow users to choose based on their specific needs and preferences. It keeps both companies on their toes, constantly striving to enhance their offerings to stay ahead.

You're on point here. It's like a healthy rivalry that ultimately benefits us as consumers. Plus, having options allows for diversity in terms of catering to different user preferences and needs.

Yeah, that's very correct. Taking away monopoly from any AI company is very important. If any of these companies are apparently allowed to be the unchallenged king in the sector they rule, many people will be cut off from using their services and they won't offer top notch quality in their services.

In addition to that, they'll overcharge customers for miniscule improvements. We've seen it with many other companies before such as Intel. Before Ryzen came along, Intel CPU chips were always quad-core processors at the high end and they charged a premium for miniscule improvements annually. Now that Ryzen's around, Intel has had to really up their game to stop AMD from taking over the market.

You and others are echoing my exact thoughts. No monopoly has ever benefited an industry in the long run. At first, those companies may exceed customer expectations with their offerings. Eventually, they'll become lazy and start selling the same thing every year for ridiculous prices and they'll get away with it because they're the only one that can provide such a service.

Exactly! You understand perfectly what I was getting at. All these big companies have always being of the habit of exploiting their customers too much whenever they have an upper hand in deciding what they give to them. But whenever there are more viable options in the market, they're going to value their service users.

Gemini has evolved and I know Google would keep it largely free. The two language models would truly co exist and they would have a significant share of the language model market alongside Microsoft's co pilot. That's the beauty of competition to the industry.
