Is the hype around AGI and its potential paradigm shift just media exaggeration?

The idea of achieving AGI, like creating a mind on par with humans for problem-solving, is mind-blowing. The predictions are bold, aiming for the near to mid-future. If it works, it's like taming fire or a turbocharged industrial revolution. But, tech predictions tend to be overstated, and media bias adds to the hype. The uncertainty, especially with AI, demotivates some about the future. Wondering if folks here are planning their lives around the potential paradigm shift. How big is this for you? Planning any major life moves based on it?

Well, it's wild thinking about AGI hitting human-level problem-solving. Predictions are all over, but the hype is real. Media doesn't help with the overstatements. The uncertainty can be a downer. Haven't rearranged my life for it yet, but curious if others are gearing up for a paradigm shift.

The media always hypes up things I have found to make them seem better than they are and it is always so exaggerated which is a shame.

AGI-hitting problem-solving that is at a human level is still a long way off but I wouldn't say it is not possible.

The effectiveness of AGI and its potential can never be swept under the rug. Yes, the media can be too hysterical with how they hype new inventions. We have been using AI since it's out, we know the experience it offers.

I think there are one-sided views, some people are overtly positive towards Artificial General Intelligence, whereas some people are too skeptical. As far as I am concerned, I like to stay on the middle path, I do not believe that are inherently dangerous and I also do not believe they will revolutionize the world. After all, it is humans who control AI

The media will always hype a trend which is going to help them sell more papers and downplay anything that's not good enough to get them value. This have been the signature move of the media since I've come to know how they operate.
