Is Midjourney art truly creative?

Midjourney produces novel images. But skeptics question whether it exhibits true human-level creativity vs just recombining elements. How could we evaluate if AI art is creative?

Evaluating if AI content is creative or not is going to be quite difficult I believe at this time.

AI is normally programmed with information and I guess that could be one way to tell how creative it really is by comparing it to ideas that humans would come up with.

That is almost a tricky question. There is a catch-22 here. You may have to evaluate a lot of things in order to determine AI's creativity. From originality, adaptability, emotional impact, contextual understanding, and intentionality, to even collaboration with humans.

Sure. You have a point. But i think the creativity behind coming up with a prompt should be rewarded. AI is just doing what a human being would have done, look at other art pieces and coming up with something. Only that AI does that quickly. And yes, midjourney seems to be doing even better than DALLE-3. But still, human intervention is still needed a lot.
