In case you've been living under a rock the past month, Google has decided to change Bard's name to Gemini. In addition to that, it's stated that they're looking to integrate Gemini into Google Assistant as well. What do you think of this news?

I personally don't get how "BARD" is a bad name. How is Gemini any better? As for Gemini getting integrated into Google Assistant? Being that I'm a privacy advocate I do have some concerns about this. What's to spot Google from reading your messages or spying on you even more?

I swore I saw something about that the other day. Let me go find the video on YouTube: I found it! A YouTube video covering this exact issue. The future of AI is already starting to feel more dystopian by the day. Will we not have any privacy?

They wanted to integrate the underlying technology behind Bard accross different of their platforms, having a specific name reflective of the engine helped branding purpose. So now, you don't need to have Bard as a separate entity from Gemini when it is the same technology that is used accross all their AI offerings.

Bard and Gemini are not the same platform. They are different platforms under the Google parent company.

Hey there,

Yeah, the rebrand from Bard to Gemini was definitely unexpected, but I guess Google wanted a fresh identity for its AI. Integrating Gemini into Google Assistant sounds interesting—it could make Assistant way more powerful, but I wonder how well it’ll actually perform in everyday tasks.

On one hand, having an advanced AI built into our phones could be super useful, but on the other, I hope it doesn’t become overly complicated or too AI-driven at the cost of the simple, quick responses we’re used to. Also, knowing Google, I wouldn’t be surprised if they tweak or rename it again in the next year

The renaming of Google Bard to Gemini reflects a strategic move by Google to better integrate its AI capabilities across various platforms, including Google Assistant. While some users are excited about the potential for enhanced functionality and seamless AI integration, others have raised concerns about privacy and the implications of such pervasive technology. As with any significant change, it will be important to balance the benefits of advanced AI with the need for user privacy and trust.
