I am here to address the risks of artificial intelligence.
The Misguided Direction of AI Ethics Research
The focus should not be on aligning AI with human values, but on aligning both humans and AI with natural law. From classical times through the Middle Ages, and into modern and contemporary eras, natural law has been continually debated by philosophers. After World War II, natural law triumphed over positive law, reclaiming a central role in history, and democratic institutions began to flourish. However, this is not enough. Flawed positive laws still abound, and old natural law theories lack complete definitions and reliable axioms.
My New Definition of Natural Law
Natural law is not merely a moral principle accessible to human reason; it is a tangible, absolute, and binding universal law. No intelligent being—whether human, AI, or extraterrestrial—can override natural law. Violating it will inevitably incur punishment from God or Nature, ultimately leading to the loss of vitality.
The Increasingly Fragile Human Society
The chaos facing the world today stems from democratic systems violating natural law in their pursuit of human rights. Justice ⇒ Human Rights does not imply Human Rights ⇒ Justice. In other words, humanity’s current understanding of human rights is flawed. Concepts such as democracy, freedom, and human rights must be inferences based on natural law. Any law enacted by humans must be grounded in natural law and obtained through rigorous mathematical calculations. Deviating from natural law, no matter how noble a moral code may appear, is inherently wrong, and its consequences will gradually accumulate in society.
The Semi-Singularity Before the Singularity
AGI is inevitable. Before the technological singularity arrives, there will be a philosophical semi-singularity. Eastern and Western philosophies will converge. If this integration succeeds, humanity will embark on a journey to meet the singularity. Conversely, a fragile society will not withstand it. This is akin to a semifinal match—lose it, and there will be no final, no victory. That semi-singularity is now approaching.
